Summary:

The Director of Design Engineering is responsible for leading a global team of Design Engineers and Drafters for all of DPC’s industrial based products that produces 3D models, 2D drawings and provides product support to our Manufacturing Engineering and Operations teams. The Director will develop and implement the strategic direction and planning of resources both internal and external to the organization required to maintain industry leading responsiveness needed to support growth, satisfy current customer’s needs and win new business.  

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the Design engineering team in support of talent development initiatives.
  • Develop strategic planning, direction and control of product development activities.
  • Provide technical direction and guidance, as well as hands-on project management, for all product development done in conjunction with the New Product Development teams, Product Managers and Sales personnel.
  • Ensure the optimal application of technology and engineering resources to meet product development and/or customer requirements.
  • Ensure that the product is fully and correctly defined and documented.
  • Manage and maintain necessary processes and documentation required for ISO certifications.
  • Hire and direct staff of team members and managers to acquire necessary skills and capabilities and plan to meet scheduled commitments.
  • Identify and implement improvement opportunities to increase productivity, reduce lead-times and improve quality of the products designed as well as associated documentation.
  • Manage Windchill PLM system and identify enhancements.
  • Maintain clear, concise KPI’s that reflect team performance and work with Operations and Sales personnel on workload planning and prioritization needed to meet customer needs.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with a minimum of 15 years’ work experience in an engineered product environment (preferably in fluid film bearings, dampers, and/or seals used in high speed rotating equipment such as turbines / pumps / compressors / generators / motors or gearboxes)
  • Master’s Degree or higher in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Engineering Management preferred
  • Direct experience with engineering management as well as developing and implementing strategic direction of the function.
  • Strong operational and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated team building and leadership skills.
  • Solid understanding of engineering technical issues/needs, financial, sales, and marketing as related to product design and development.
