The Director, Compression and Sealing reports to the VP, Global Operations to support manufacturing leaders and shared services support function leaders to drive the Company's overall operational goals. The Director will research, analyze, and develop recommendations for manufacturing best practices and provide guidance/training to the manufacturing team across existing and future sites. Working well as a collaborative member of the Company's broader leadership team is imperative to success in the role, as is the ability to deliver results in a fast-paced environment where systems and processes are still being developed and maturing. As a Director, Compression and Sealing you will direct, lead, and control the activities of a mission critical high volume manufacturing plants servicing our single biggest customer. You will help deploy manufacturing and operations strategic direction and motivate staff and the organization to meet quality, cost, schedule, inventory, and delivery requirements while fostering an environment of continuous improvement. You will drive business development and value by completing large cross-functional projects including Manufacturing transfer and maximize competencies around operational excellence and Lean Six Sigma. You will be responsible for organizing project activities and interdepartmental meetings; ensuring communication facilitates completion of the site projects that support Dover Precision Components (DPC) strategy, on schedule and within budget constraints.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
 

  • Sustain an enterprise-wide Business Excellence program to transform the organization’s culture to include Operational excellence as a fundamental element.
  • Lead a team that mentors candidates to become Lean/Six Sigma practitioners as Green and Black Belts to support the overall Business Operational Excellence initiative.
  • Work closely with business leaders at a Dover corporate level promoting asset utilization and manufacturing transfer, optimizing footprint and asset utilization
  • Actively engage with Manufacturing Operations to evaluate existing process layouts in terms of new process integration, ensuring best utilization of floor space, minimized handling and optimum process flow.
  • Continuously assesses the status of the Company's automated manufacturing systems and procedures to ensure safety, quality, and compliance measures exceed standards, while leveraging efficiencies throughout the assigned sites.
  • Identifies and applies meaningful and attainable KPIs to continuously measure the efficiency of the Company's engineering and manufacturing processes
  • Assesses and implements improvements to existing automation systems and standardizes best practices across our growing network of U.S. manufacturing facilities
  • Ensure adherence to all regulatory and environmental compliance requirements
  • Achieve optimum employee levels with minimal overhead while meeting production needs
  • Implement equipment upgrades as needed to increase quality, quantity, safety, and efficiency
  • Identify, develop, and implement processes to improve productivity and reduce cost
  • Implement and monitor processes that provide for the most efficient use of working capital, including appropriate raw materials and WIP inventory levels
  • Key Leader for safety in safety leadership, behavior based safety, and conditional based safety. Comply with environmental reporting, health, and safety requirements
  • Develop and implement plans to standardize machinery and production processes
  • Research and identify areas within current production processes for automation
  • Provide coaching to Plant Managers assisting employees in professional development
  • On-going assessment of departmental employee training requirements
  • Work in conjunction with HR to develop union contract negotiation goals
  • Perform ongoing evaluations of departmental organization structure and team talent
  • Identify areas to improve bottom-line profitability
  • Lead site leaders in the Identification of manufacturing, engineering, and maintenance related capital requirements
  • Lead the forecast data analysis, to appropriately plan capacity to meet On-Time-Performance expectations.
  • Coordinates with appropriate corporate groups to plan for future strategic plan implementation, including Operational excellence, Lean, and Automation.
  • Coordinates and participates in general administrative and technical programs and functions such as: work force planning, production schedule, shipping commitments, management development programs, QIP/JIT, and their compliance.
  • Participates in business development activities that develop/enhance customer relationships and close sales, including business case, risk and technical assessments, and customer communication in partnership with the commercial team.
  • Leads the development of systems and layouts that follow lean manufacturing philosophies, with emphasis on maximizing throughput and quality
  • Strong understanding of local cultural norms and demonstrated agility to navigate the local labor context as applicable; works councils or consultative committees, unions and local government networks (as applicable)
  • Regularly communicates KPI results, project progress, and relevant financial health indicators to executive leadership
  • Identifies and implements preventative maintenance programs to optimize equipment performance
  • Develops and maintains healthy relationships with external vendors/suppliers as needed
     
    Qualifications
     
  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Engineering or similar technical discipline. Advanced degree (M.S,/M.B.A) preferred
  • 10+ years of direct manufacturing management experience with automotive being preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience working in a lean manufacturing environment.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing automation strategy
  • Proven track record of P&L management and delivering continuous improvement results by championing LEAN manufacturing methodologies and building and engaging high performance teams
