Principal Engineer - Reciprocating Compression

We are hiring a Principal Engineer for our reciprocating gas compression business to lead research and development for packing case and sealing product lines.

 

This role designs, tests and develops new products for packing and sealing in our reciprocating gas compression business and provides technical leadership in the development of an evolving product technology roadmap.

What You’ll Do

  • Create innovative new product ideas to address the needs of the reciprocating gas compression market.
  • Lead highly complex technical development projects related to packing and sealing systems and design new product prototypes and test set-ups, executing experiments, analyzing data and results, and reporting outcomes out to a cross-functional team.
  • Maintain conformance to Stage & Gate Process at all stages of development projects.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing, quality, applications engineering and sales teams.
  • Ensure protection of newly generated intellectual property (IP).
  • Participate in joint development projects with external partners, providing technical expertise, including key customer visits, team meetings, and activities related to engineering/technical elements of various programs.
  • Assure conformance of new products to requirements, including but not limited to, customer, regulatory, and safety requirements.
  • Attend and present at technical conferences. Track trends and developments in industry.
  • Participate in and contribute to process improvement and design for manufacturability activities.
  • Provide support to Innovation Lab personnel, including hands-on activities on complex test equipment, such as compressors or bearing test rigs.

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 7+ years' experience in the design, development, and testing of packing and sealing systems used in reciprocating gas compression.
  • Strong skills in advanced engineering analysis and tools to solve complex problems.
  • Previous hands-on experience and willingness to work with compressors and other complex test equipment.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with specialized design and simulation software.
  • High level of attention to detail and skills/discipline to resolve complex technical problems systematically.
  • Demonstrated ability to create new product ideas and develop solutions and utilize a systematic approach in all stages between concept generation and product launch.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Must be familiar with the impact of the manufacturing processes and materials on the key factors that control the form, fit, and function of a compressor and its components.
  • Previous experience in a lead role for highly technical teams highly preferred.
