The 2nd Shift Production Lead is responsible for coordinating daily production activities while actively performing production and machining duties. This position provides frontline leadership by directing workflow, assigning jobs, monitoring production priorities, and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to quality standards. 

 

The hours for this shift are: 2:30pm - 1:00 am M-Th. 

 

Lead Responsibilities:

  • Participate in all plant safety initiatives, report potentially unsafe conditions, and abide by corporate and local policies.
  • Actively engage in lean manufacturing principles and techniques.  This includes, but is not limited to, actively participating in kaizen events, 5S activities, and continuously seeking improvement in the work area.
  • Work with the Production Supervisor and other Lead People to manage and prioritize staffing assignments to ensure customer demand and the production schedule is met.
  • Execute and coordinate employee training to ensure that procedures are followed and meet all quality requirements.
  • Report problems or concerns with quality, processes, equipment, material, and labor to the Manufacturing Supervisor.
  • Attend and contribute to shift hand off meetings.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments – Supply Chain, Safety, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, etc – to resolve issues.

 

Machining Responsibilities:

  • Works from drawings, sketches and specifications in completing various machining operations.
  • Obtains required inspections on first pieces of a run according to prescribed procedure and performs inspections on work-in-progress.
  • Completes and maintains all necessary records of time, part counts, first piece inspections, and requisition forms, etc. for each job.
  • Responsible for providing guidance and training to lower-level machinist.

 

Minimum required qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to measure parts using micrometers, calipers or other measuring tools
  • Must be able to read and interpret drawings and blueprints

 

The ideal candidate possesses the following experience, skills, and abilities:

  • 8-10 years in manufacturing environment
  • Leadership experience preferred
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems
  • Strong organizational skills; Ensure 5S standards are met within respective areas of responsibility
  • Excellent verbal and written communication

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Walks, stands, reaches, and bends frequently.
  • Periodic lifting of moderate to heavy items may be required; no more than 30lbs.
  • Possesses good hand/eye coordination.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required: safety glasses, steel toed shoes, and hearing protection in required areas.
