Evaluation Engineer

The Evaluation Engineer’s primary role is to perform vision evaluations in support of sales opportunities and project implementations.  Working within the Customer Success group under the supervision of a Solution Architect, this role includes responsibility for performing the hands-on lab work necessary to produce working automated inspection solutions for Systech’s Brand Protection and Packaging Intelligence Suite.  Required in this role is the ability to understand the principles of optical filters, specialized lighting equipment and other elements necessary to deploy robust machine vision solutions.  The ability to thoroughly document work, follow good engineering practices, and adhere to formal process and procedure is mandatory.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reviewing application surveys submitted to ensure all information submitted is accurate and complete.
  • Managing and prioritizing the vision evaluation queue to meet sales and project timelines
  • Managing customer samples, including receiving, storing, and tracking customer samples in a database.
  • Performing hands-on lab work to conduct vision evaluations on customer samples to determine feasibility and selecting the appropriate solution for the application.  Vision evaluations include blob detection, pixel counting, filtering, stitching, thresholding, edge detection, and digital fingerprinting.
  • Maintaining a database to enable vision evaluation progress to be monitored by external stakeholders (e.g. sales and service delivery teams).
  • Creating vision station design packages and vision evaluations reports after lab work has been completed.
  • Assisting with the creation of pre-configured vision solutions that can be accessed and utilized for future applications.
  • Supporting field resources with any issues related to the performance of the vision solution for active projects.
  • Assisting with the testing of new vision hardware.
  • Maintaining an organized vision evaluation lab.
  • Maintaining an organized, secure and documented vision evaluation sample storage area.
  • Assisting with the creation of procedures and documentation required to facilitate the functions of vision lab. 
  • Remaining current in industry developments and technology trends
  • Travel up to 10%

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Some practical experience in applied engineering principles, technical knowledge of Windows-based computer systems and software.
  • Experience in Manufacturing, Packaging, General Automation and Networking a plus
  • Knowledge of Engineering drawing & working knowledge of ACAD
  • Demonstrates strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent written communication and verbal skills
  • Possesses strong customer service skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors or Associates degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, Electrical or Computer focus preferred.
  • 2 + years of practical Engineering experience, Co-Op or internships.

 

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Must have working knowledge and experience using e-mail, Internet, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Visual Basic a plus.
