In this role you’ll be… setting and implementing an Intellectual Property (IP) strategy in alignment with the business’ long-term strategies and technology/product roadmaps; protecting and enforcing IP to realize competitive advantage for Markem-Imaje; and ensuring that third party IP rights are respected.

 

You’ll have an opportunity to… work in a team and cross-functionally across the Markem-Imaje product divisions whilst advising on various IP topics in support of the growth and business transition targets.

 

You should possess… a patent attorney qualification and IP working experience in the field of software.


Principal Activities / Duties / Responsibilities:

•Lead development and implementation of an IP strategic roadmap for targeted business category while collaborating  with the engineering, product development and business managers.
•Lead cross-functional technology evaluation and review to enable IP decision making.
•Perform competitive analysis of patent and commercial product landscapes.
•Lead an IP review council to enable IP decision making.
•Advise management on other IP rights, e.g., trademarks, designs and trade secrets.
•Foster and encourage inventors to produce invention disclosures when the opportunity arises and guide patenting decisions.
•Initiate and manage patentability, freedom to operate and state of the art searches and analysis.
•Engage and effectively manage outside counsel, when appropriate.
•Various hands-on patent attorney tasks.
•Track progress and structure information related to the IP portfolio.
•Conduct IP training for commercial, R&D and engineering personnel.
•Support IP due diligence activities with respect to co-development, licensing and acquisition projects.
•Enforce IP rights and manage IP disputes with third parties.


Education and/or Experience Required:

•Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering or electrical engineering.
•Juris Doctorate Degree
•Registered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office or comparable patent attorney qualification.
•Minimum of 5 years of experience as patent attorney in a corporate or law firm environment, preferably both
•Working experience in technology-based IP management and strategy
•Current knowledge of US and international patent laws and regulations, as well as good knowledge on broad range of intellectual property rights including trademarks, designs, copyright and trade secrets.
•Willingness to take ownership, focused on results, has ability to prioritize and manage competing demands.
•Outstanding written and oral communication skills
•Ability to work cross-functionally to solve problems in a matrixed structure
•Demonstrated ability to build and manage collaborative relationships
•Strong analytical ability and problem-solving skills
