Position Summary:

The Manipulator Field Service Technician for Central Research Laboratories is responsible for providing on-site support for CRL manipulators to existing customers. Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair and/or install complex manipulators and accessories on customer sites both domestically and internationally as required.

The Manipulator Field Service Technician reports to the Manager, Projects and Proposals. The position requires the ability to work and communicate globally and virtually with Customer Service and Field Service personnel.

Key Job Responsibilities included but not limited to:

  • Travel to client sites to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair and/or install manipulators as needed.
  • Responsible for conducting regular manipulator service customers visits as required by CRL Service Agreements. Recommend replacement parts, spare parts and service contracts to existing customers, creating additional revenue stream for the Company.
  • Consult with Field Service, Customer Service, Operations, Engineering and Sales, as necessary, to resolve technical issues related to customer satisfaction in a timely manner.
  • Communicate customer issues to the Projects and Proposals Manager and Customer Service.
  • Provide post-client site visit reports to the Projects and Proposals Manager.
  • Maintain current passport and other customer-required certifications as required. Comply with all required rules and standards at customer location in working in nuclear or other hazardous areas.
  • During times not assigned to field service the position will have a dotted line reporting to manufacturing supporting production building manipulators.

Job Requirements:


Minimum 5 years technical experience with complex mechanical devices, generally gained through equipment maintenance or assembly experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Complete manipulator certification program which includes demonstrating proficiency building and troubleshooting core models of the product line.
  • Ability to work with complicated drawings and possess a thorough knowledge and understanding of Company products and assemblies.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% on short notice to client facilities to perform field service.
  • Must be a self starter and work independently to grow Company revenue stream in the area of service on mechanical assemblies, primarily in the nuclear & radio pharmaceutical markets.
  • Excellent customer service skills, both oral and written, with a demonstrated ability to deal with varying customer skill levels.
  • Ability to work effectively with others within the Company to satisfy customer needs.
  • Field service experience & training experience and experience with hazardous material handling devices a plus.
  • Must be able to pass all required security clearances and to pass and maintain any and all US Department of Energy certifications necessary for working in hazardous radiation areas if required to do so.
