Position Summary

The Quality Engineer supports the Quality Department in implementing robust manufacturing processes and supports efforts in maintaining the quality management system for the Red Wing facility. Works with Engineering, Production, and Product Management in providing professional quality guidance to assess, correct and maintain the product and processes.  Will use quality tools such as problem solving, leading cross-functional teams, statistical analysis, documented methods, and audits to ensure internal and external customers are supported. Provides technical advice to the site leadership team on quality, reliability, safety, and performance issues encountered during product life cycle. In this role you will partner with Manufacturing Engineers and the Quality Coordinator to establish best practices, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement. The Quality Engineer reports to the Quality Manager.

 

Key Job Responsibilities included but not limited to:

  • Develops, analyzes, and conducts root cause analysis on product non-conformances from all sources to determine areas to focus improvements for permanent corrective action.
  • Follows established procedures and guidelines to check, test and inspect raw materials, goods in process, and finished goods.
  • Lead and participate in cross-functional teams to identify effective corrective and preventive actions to improve process quality.
  • Work closely with suppliers to ensure incoming product meets Destaco’ s print requirements.
  • Compares the physical characteristics of components, materials, equipment, and products to technical specifications to identify defects.
  • Familiarity with problem solving methodologies and tools.  
  • Monitors and improves controls of calibrated measuring equipment.
  • Assists and participates in the performance of Internal Quality Audits.
  • Ensures that all responsibilities and functions performed are in accordance with company policy and procedures and meet required quality standards.
  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively use all necessary measuring tools. (Micrometers, calipers, gage pines, thread gages, height gage etc.)
  • Assists in the development of standardized work processes and process improvements.
  • Assists in the implementation and maintenance of ISO initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Education and Certification Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Mechanical Engineering or other related field
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE); other ASQ certifications are highly desirable
  • Formal problem-solving certifications {Root Cause Analysis} desirable
  • Five to ten years engineering experience in a manufacturing setting preferred.

 

Physical Requirements: (To be met with or without accommodations)

  • Ability to lift to 40 pounds
  • Stand 10 hours a day – Work station Desk will be assigned.
  • Good manual dexterity
  • Eye hand coordination and attention to detail
  • Ability to bend, twist and turn.
