Job Title:  Automation Technician, 1st Shift

FLSA Status: Hourly/Non-Exempt

Location:  Richmond, VA

 

What we’re looking for:

 

The Automation Technician will be responsible improving machine efficiency through technology improvements, troubleshooting and supporting Continuous Improvement. Primarily interfacing with Maintenance, Continuous Improvement and Operations to lead and support Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE).

 

What you’ll be responsible for in this role:

 

  • Monitors installed equipment to detect hazards, problems, and the need for service, repair and/or replacement of electrical, electronic and mechanical components.
  • Reads and understands electronic and electrical schematics; draws sketches to clarify design details and functional criteria of electrical units.
  • Maintains backups of programs from all electronic devices.
  • Support Wireless networks for machine control
  • Trouble-shoot / repair both hardware and software for variable frequency drives, controllers, Programmable Logic Controllers, etc.
  • Analyzes and interprets programs from drives and controllers, PLC’s to improve performance and assist troubleshooting.
  • Identify and implement downtime, quality, or efficiency improvement projects in automated systems
  • Support startup or add new product/process in automated systems
  • Work cross-functionally to improve overall automated system OEE
  • Keeps work area clean, orderly, and free of hazards.

 

 

What are the basic qualifications?

 

  • Associates degree in Electronics Technology
  • Two (2) years’ experience within electrical or electronics field

 

What are the preferred qualifications?

 

  • Five (5) years of experience within electrical or electronics field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and working knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC’s; ability to use AB software to perform root cause analysis, troubleshoot, writing or re-writing code (Ladder Logic, Function Block, Statement List, etc.)
  • Demonstrated proficiency and working knowledge of Fanuc robotics; ability to use Fanuc software to perform root cause analysis, troubleshoot, writing or re-writing code (Motion Pro, Teach Pendant, IR Vision, etc.)

 

To be a great fit for the role:

 

  • Completion of a trade apprenticeship (journeyman electrical, etc).
  • Able to work other shifts and overtime to complete work as needed; willing to be on call to support production needs.
  • AutoCAD and Solidworks experience
  • Basic proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Able to prepare technical reports for documenting issues/changes to equipment.
  • Able to manage projects for implementing changes and improvements.
  • Responsible for their own work and must exercise care and compliance of all established safety procedures.
  • Adhere to company safety policies (LOTO, Arc Flash, Confined Space, Fall protection, etc).
  • Willing to work occasionally in conditions that may include dirt, fumes, lubricants, etc.
  • Able to handle physical heavy lifting of materials/tools up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Able to work on aerial lift platforms up to 50 feet on a limited basis, 30 feet on average.
