Development Engineer

Dover Precision Components is hiring a Development Engineer for our Inpro/Seal business. We are a world leader in the design and manufacture of permanent bearing protection and complete shaft sealing solutions for a variety of rotating equipment across multiple industries. We offer competitive pay and benefits, and the ability to be a key contributor at our ISO-certified manufacturing facility located in Rock Island, Illinois.  This is a hybrid/remote role- work 3 days onsite and 2 days remote per week if you’re interested and projects allow.

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

In this role, you will understand the needs of the rotating equipment market and create innovative new product ideas to address these needs. You will identify new application areas for existing and new product lines. You will bring the ability to meet deadlines, work with minimal supervision, and collaborate cross-functionally in a matrixed environment. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Lead highly complex technical development projects related to sealing and bearing protection.
  • Design new product prototypes and test set-ups, executing experiments, analyzing data and results, and reporting outcomes out to a cross-functional team.
  • Maintain conformance to Stage & Gate Process at all stages of development projects. 
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing, quality, applications engineering and sales teams as needed.
  • Ensure protection of newly generated intellectual property (IP).
  • Participate in joint development projects with external partners, providing technical expertise.
  • Participate in key customer visits, team meetings, and activities related to engineering/ technical elements of various programs.
  • Assist in research and development projects managed by other development engineers as needed.
  • Ensure conformance of new products to requirements, including but not limited to, customer, regulatory, and safety requirements.
  • Attend and present at technical conferences and track trends and developments in industry.
  • Contribute to process improvement and design for manufacturability activities.
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering project proposals as needed.
  • Design and conduct experiments using customized test equipment in the Inpro Seal R&D Lab; Provide support to other lab personnel; and Build test set-ups for product or function tests.

 

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a minimum of 3 years’ related experience required.
  • Demonstrated ability to create new product ideas and develop solutions, utilizing a systematic approach in all stages between concept generation and product launch.
  • Previous hands-on, “lab” experience and aptitude working with rotating machinery and complex test equipment.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with specialized design and simulation software.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and strong ability in advanced engineering analysis and tools to solve complex problems.
  • Familiarity with the impact of the manufacturing processes and materials on the key factors that control the form, fit, and function of a product.

 

 

ALSO GREAT IF YOU BRING/ PREFERENCES

  • Master’s degree in engineering.
  • Experience in design and development of bearings, seals, and/or other components in rotating machinery.
  • Previous experience in a lead role for highly technical teams.

 

 

Salary depends on qualifications and background with a targeted range of $80,000- $110,000. This is a bonus eligible position with a full range of benefits.
