SUMMARY:

The Machine Operator sets up and operates machine tools such as saws, milling machines, boring machines, and grinders, to machine metal work pieces. The Machine Operator will be able to work to exact tolerances, determine speeds and feeds, and sharpen own tools. Must be able to visualize finished product, recognize and report corrections in blueprint errors.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position are: Actively promote and participate in advancing the safety culture of the facility. Reads blueprint or job order for product specifications such as dimensions and tolerances, and tooling instructions such as fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut, and determines sequence of operations. Selects, positions, and secures tool in tool holder. Positions and secures work piece in holding device, machine table, chuck, centers, or fixtures. Moves controls to position tool and work piece in relation to each other, and to set specified feeds, speeds, and depth of cut. Sets up fixture or feeding device, starts machine, and turns hand wheel to feed tool to work piece or vice versa, and engages feed. Observes operation of machine and verifies conformance of machined work piece to specifications. Operates bench grinder to sharpen tools. Sets up and operates machines and equipment other than machine tools.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalent At least 1 – 3 year related experience and/or training or a equivalent of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
