SUMMARY: The Materials Manager provides results-driven leadership to procurement, planning and shipping/receiving with a focus on best practices, quality and continuous improvement. Responsible for managing all aspects of materials flow including maintaining inventory control and accuracy. This position is also responsible for developing and managing supplier relationships.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops, implements and manages a cross-functional, fully-integrated planning process that incorporates capacity planning, scheduling, inventory, raw materials and associated cost elements
  • Performs analysis of customer demand, sales forecasts and historical material usage to develop and execute accurate production plans
  • Coordinates with cross-functional business teams to develop the best economic strategy for production planning to support customer demand
  • Ability to leverage metrics and other tools to drive departmental performance
  • Establishes and implements methods and best practices that support inventory forecasting, procurement and material control Leads by example and motivates people so as to create a challenging, empowering, and collaborative working environment
  • Implements and manages an inventory control system that provides reporting capabilities, minimizes overall inventory value and ensures accuracy of cycle counts
  • Proactively identifies and addresses any issues with the production plan by establishing and monitoring the schedule and coordinating with quality, engineering and production operations to ensure on-time delivery targets
  • Develops and executes a sourcing strategy to meet the location’s growth and sourcing requirements Identifies, develops and manages effective relationships with existing and potential suppliers to meet established cost, quality and delivery targets
  • Establishes, implements and manages a system to evaluate, monitor and report supplier scorecard performance
  • Delivers and fosters continuous improvement in all areas of responsibility
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has supervisory responsibilities for all employees in procurement, planning and shipping/receiving.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, material management or similar preferred
  • At least 5 years progressive experience in a manufacturing environment with procurement, inventory, planning, supervision and ERP systems
  • Experience in Lean, Total Quality Management, Six Sigma or similar environment
  • Familiarity with ISO 9000 quality system requirements.
  • Strong planning, organizational, analytical, communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to positively motivate individuals and teams
  • Working knowledge and understanding of ERP/MRP systems and their use in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate solid written and oral communication skills.
  • APICS certification preferred

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general technical procedures. Ability to communicate to groups of people, managers, vendors, customers, co-workers and the general public.
