Position Overview:

The Director of Sales and Product Strategy will be responsible for driving growth and leading the sales strategy for FW Murphy’s product lines in the compression and industrial sectors. This individual will oversee a diverse sales team, with members dedicated to various product lines, ensuring alignment with the company’s strategic objectives. The Director will also manage a hybrid go-to-market strategy, including both channel partners and direct sales teams, improving salesforce effectiveness, and consistently delivering top-tier sales and GM% results.

This position requires a deep understanding of the natural gas industry in the USA, with the ability to connect and build relationships at every level, from regional offices to headquarters and customer field teams. The Director must adapt communication and interpersonal styles to diverse audiences while employing a value-based sales approach. This position offers a pathway to greater career opportunities within FW Murphy and its parent company, Dover.  

The Director will focus on identifying new business opportunities, developing and strengthening customer relationships, and collaborating cross-functionally with Product Management, Marketing, and strategic Account Managers to develop effective sales strategies. This role will also prepare and manage business plans, sales forecasts, and regular reporting to ensure consistent sales growth and market expansion.

The position reports to the VP of FW Murphy.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a multi-product sales team, fostering collaboration and accountability to meet and exceed sales goals.
  • Manage a hybrid go-to-market strategy, including channel partners and direct sales teams, with a focus on improving salesforce effectiveness and exceeding GM% targets.
  • Identify and develop sales opportunities within the compression and industrial markets, focusing on higher technology and smart product solutions.
  • Collaborate with Product Management to align sales strategies with customer needs and product roadmaps.
  • Develop and execute annual business plans, sales forecasts, and performance reports for the product lines supported.
  • Conduct market research and customer analysis to identify new growth opportunities.
  • Utilize a value-based sales approach to strengthen customer relationships and close deals.
  • Ensure the sales team delivers superior sales and GM% results, consistently outperforming market growth rates.
  • Collaborate with Product Management to align sales strategies with customer needs and product roadmaps.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, industry influencers, and decision makers.
  • Guide the sales team through the full sales cycle, from prospecting to closing, ensuring customer satisfaction and retention.
  • Work closely with Strategic Account Managers and other internal teams to drive product penetration and expansion in target markets.
  • Support product training, customer presentations, and technical solution development in collaboration with internal teams.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless product launches and market readiness.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in sales/account management, preferably in IoT, technical solutions, or in the oil & gas and industrial sectors, with at least 5 years in a sales leadership role.
  • Proven leadership skills managing a multi-product sales team and achieving business growth.
  • Experience developing and implementing successful sales strategies.
  • Strong understanding of IoT, Engine & Compressor Controls in the Natural Gas & Industrial sectors with a track record of driving market penetration.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical solutions.
  • Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and customer relationship management skills. .
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.
