Continuation Engineer - Tooling

Job Summary

The Continuation Retooling Engineer will be a core member of the retooling team responsible for characterizing, planning and executing upon plastic part retooling or tool transfer activities.

As a member of the Continuation Engineering team, secondary responsibilities will include the redesign and/or continuous improvement of existing products, creating and maintaining engineering CAD models, drawings and specifications, executing and managing the Engineering Change Order process, evaluating and addressing product performance issues, and providing diverse engineering support to both internal and external customers. 

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Participate in the identification and prioritization of retool opportunities
  • Lead technical reviews for components planned for retooling
  • Identify opportunities to improve part function, quality and/or yield
  • Manipulate CAD models, drawings and specifications in support of objectives defined by the retooling team
  • In cooperation with quality and manufacturing team members, review/revise or create risk-based test, metrology and inspection, and validation plans
  • Review and disposition inspection data
  • Execute retooling-related engineering change orders
  • Anticipate and plan when non-interchangeable component or assembly situations are encountered
  • Manage product structures/BOMs in ERP system
  • Maintain engineering standards and specifications; create and update specifications as required
  • Represent CPC Engineering in quality surveillance audits as required
  • Author new procedures and work instructions to support retooling processes
  • Provide technical support to subcontractors
    Required Job Qualifications
  • Proficiency in Creo/Windchill or other CAD proficiency
  • Hands-on mechanical aptitude
  • Working knowledge of tooling, machinery and processes used for injection molding
  • Maintains a high level of personal organization and models this behavior to team and peers 
  • Ability to apply sound engineering logic to solve complex problems, to properly assess risks, and make decisions accordingly
  • Ability to work independently and to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in cross-functional teams
  • Strong but respectful verbal communication style
  • Experience with technical writing



Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Design experience with fluid handling components for bioprocessing or life sciences applications
  • Familiarity with ISO13485 quality system
  • Experience performing DFMEA, PFMEA and process DOEs



Required Education and/or Experience

  • BS in Engineering
  • Minimum of 2 years related work experience in relevant engineering field


Travel Requirement

Typically less than 10%, both international and domestic
