Position Summary:
The Manufacturing Technologist II, operates and adjusts various types of conventional or additive machinery including CNC multi-axis machines, lathes, drill presses, grinders FDM, Resin, Powder Bed or SLS or other precision equipment and may assist Manufacturing Team Members in the set-up of machines. This position reports to the Manufacturing Technologies team.
Essential Job Functions:
- Works from drawings, solid models, written and digital instructions to create parts in support of engineering and production efforts.
- Performs a wide variety of duties to set up and operate CNC machines. Performs diversified and complex operations on one or more machines simultaneously as required.
- Follow document and work instructions for processes.
- Requires basic knowledge of various metal, plastics and of measurements used in machining processes to provide technical leadership and assist in training less experienced team members.
- Understands aspects of operating machines and can proficiently run multiple machines.
- Handles changeovers with limited assistance, has the ability and understanding of CNC machine logic.
- Create simple to moderately complex CNC programs, post-edit CNC programs to fine-tune processes for optimal performance and can read, find errors, and troubleshoot programs.
- Be familiar with pre and post processing of 3D printed parts.
- Be able to create and post 3D printing files and post to multiple systems.
- Capable of setting up jobs, running jobs and inspecting parts.
- Capable of performing setting up multiple jobs and working with work prioritization scheduling.
- Possesses basic math and problem-solving abilities.
- Reads prints to recognize specifications for various surfaces being machined.
- Works from prints and determine operational sequences; select tools, spindle speeds, tool feed rates and chucking/holding requirements in accordance with materials.
- Inspects work pieces at beginning of and throughout production run to ensure part meets tolerance requirements.
- Inspects and understands when to replace cutting tools.
- Demonstrates ability to effectively use all necessary measuring tools to assure conformance to print.
- Understands and verifies tolerances for machined surfaces.
- Detects worn tools and replaces tooling as appropriate.
- Appropriate tool selection for the material and process being performed.
- Establish proper tool offsets and make necessary adjustments.
- Performs preventative maintenance as needed on assigned equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in setting up, operating, and programming CNC and manual machines.
- Design for Additive Manufacturing (DFAM) experience to help business units better develop components for machining operations.
- Selection of the appropriate machine tools and fixturing required to produce assigned work.
- Familiar with CAM software (Fusion360, Mastercam, HSM Works or GibbsCam)
- Familiar with CAD systems such as CREO, Solidworks, Fusion360 or equivalent CAD software
Required Qualifications:
- Understands the differences of machining metals and plastics
- Clear communications, strong organizational skills and self-driven
- Design for Manufacturing (DFM) experience to help business units better develop components for machining operations.
- Accomplish builds from beginning to end with little direction
Education and Certification Qualifications:
- Associates degree or higher preferred
