The Master Production Scheduler is responsible for developing the master production plan to satisfy customer demand while carrying minimum effective inventory. The qualified individual will be responsible for providing the plant with a monthly production plan consistent with the plant capacity and sales forecast. Must also provide long term (18+ months) capacity requirements analysis to guide the business in terms of labor and equipment capacity acquisition.

The Master Sscheduler evaluates and determines estimated equipment set-ups, cycle times, and work center hours. S/He also serve as a liaison between customer service personnel and purchasing on the scheduling of raw material purchases.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include, but not limited to):

  • Create a rolling 3-month Master Production Plan for designated products. Utilize the production capacity, taking into consideration the sales forecast, historical sales, and new business opportunities. Analyze and identify risks associated with the options built into the Master Production Plan, including manufacturing lead times. 
  • Participates in periodic forecasting meetings with sales, marketing, and other related departments; leads additional planning meetings with sales, production, shipping, purchasing, and customer service staff.
  • Maintains various reporting systems for ensuring that documentation is accurate and timely.
  • Perform supply-demand analysis each quarter, highlighting areas of concern for the next 12 months.
  • Make delivery commitments on S&OP targets, which involve checking uncommitted material and availability of capacity.
  • Develop inventory targets and help manage production to achieve targeted inventory levels on both a cost and unit basis.
  • Maintain safety stock inventory at target levels to ensure high service levels, i.e. product availability.
  • Ensure coordination with plant planners to execute the Production Plan on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Monitor actual output versus the Master Production Plan.
  • Identify gaps and escalate or drive solutions on production performance relative to the requested production schedule.
  • Review sales forecast with Product Line managers on a monthly basis and, suggest modifications consistent with knowledge of current or historical demand.
  • Timely reporting of key metrics.
  • Support the S&OP process meetings to review service levels, performance against schedule, inventory strategy, supply plan to meet demand, and resource implications. Update the Master Production Plan as necessary.


.BS or BA degree in related area or equivalent experience.  APIC’s certification or equivalent training and education.  Five (5) years or more experience as a planner or similar position.  Demonstrated skills and knowledge in MRP calculations, capacity planning, production planning and shop floor control, forecasting, sales and operations planning and inventory control including Kanban’s. Ability to communicate clearly, both written and oral; ability to respond to sensitive inquiries or complaints; ability to be persuasive.  Ability to read and interpret documents, instructions, etc. Ability to apply reasonable judgment and make decisions independently.  Basic math skills required with emphasis on the ability to compute rates, ratios and percentage.  Proficient with computers, preparing reports, spreadsheet, charts, etc.  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions and make decisions in a timely manner.  Planning and organizational skills. Excellent project management abilities.

Sshould have strong technical skills in order to effectively perform their job duties. Relevant technical knowledge and skills may include LEAN Manufacturing, Six Sigma, but also Microsoft Project, Viso, Excel and ERP and MES system experience. Knowledge of APIC’s materials management concepts and principles, MRP calculations, capacity planning, production planning and shop floor controls.



  • Individual must be highly organized and understands the processes that drive a supply chain.
  • Specializes in implementing best planning and scheduling practices
  • 5 years’ experience in a production scheduler and/or Inventory control role
  • Experience in managing manufacturing processes, productivity and efficiency measurements
  • Experience using MPR/ERP systems, especially Advance Planning Systems; with IFS experience a plus
  • APICS certification (CPIM or CSCP)
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to reason and influence at all levels
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
