Mfg.Eng./CNC Machine Process Engineer

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Optimize and improve the manufacturing process on CNC machines by analyzing existing procedures, designing new tooling, and fixturing, troubleshooting machining issues, and developing and deploying a ‘Digital Thread’ value stream.

Plans, directs, and coordinates manufacturing processes.  Develops and improves manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods and quality control standards. 

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Process Development
    • Analyzing existing CNC machining processes to identify areas for improvement.
    • Designing and implementing new machining techniques, tooling, fixturing, and software value stream to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
    • Supports in deployment and driving Machine Excellence Playbook.
    • Conducting time studies and process capability analysis to identify bottlenecks and potential improvements.
    • Design and implement engineering and/or process solutions for increased quality, improved throughput, and reduced costs.
  • Documentation and Reporting
    • Creating and maintaining detailed process documentation, regarding CNC programs, tooling specifications, and standard operating procedures.
    • Documents manufacturing methods clearly and complete, allowing production personnel with little or no knowledge of the product to be successful.
    • Generating reports on production metrics, quality data, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Quality Control
    • Collaborate with quality personnel to resolve quality issues.
    • Implement statistical process control techniques to identify and address quality variations.
  • New Product Introduction
    • Analyze product design to develop CNC machining process.
    • Aids in product design utilizing Design for Manufacturing and Assembly concepts. Works with design engineering for introduction of new products to machine shop and production. 
    • Confers with vendors to determine product specification and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts.  
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Supports in driving I4.0 journey to connect machines to drive OEE improvements
    • Perform SMED activities to improve OEE by driving actionable plan.
    • Design and implement engineering and/or process solutions for increased quality, improved throughput, and reduced costs.
    • Has direct influence on Continuous Improvement methodologies and creating a culture of learning and growth. Support continuous improvement initiatives including Kaizen activities and Lean 6Sigma implementation.
  • Troubleshooting and Maintenance
    • Diagnosing and resolving CNC machine malfunctions and errors.
    • Performing preventative maintenance on CNC machines to ensure optimal performance.
    • Coordinating with machine maintenance technicians for complex repairs.
  • Resource Optimization
    • Analyses and plans work force utilization, space requirements, workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency. 
    • Estimates production times, staffing requirements and related costs.  Confers with management and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, etc. to facilitate production processes. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS SUMMARY:

  • Strong understanding of CNC machining principles, including milling, turning, and grinding operations.
  • Expertise in CNC programming languages. (e.g., G-code, M-code)
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) methodologies.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software for designing tooling and simulating machining processes.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot complex machining issues.
  • Ability to apply and facilitate others on the basics of continuous improvement (LEAN) principles utilizing techniques such as:  Value Stream mapping, Leadership Standard Work (LSW), A3 facilitation.  
  • Must be able to demonstrate use of Windows based software tools such as:  Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, PowerPoint or equal.
  • High degree of interpersonal and communication skills required. 
  • Understanding and use of complex process methodologies to develop parts and assemblies in at least one discipline (Machining, castings, or Injection molding).  Good Industrial engineering skills (time motion studies, ergonomics, cycle time, takt time, JIT, etc.)
  • Good ERP exposure (has worked through issues to release BOM’s, routings, setup, queue, costing, etc. for complex bill). 

 

MUST HAVE REQUIREMENTS:

  • BSME degree with 5 years' experience or 10+ years' work experience in related field
  • U.S Person
  • Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance (is applicable)
  • Works from minimal documentation, written or verbal instructions, schematics, rough sketches, diagrams, and layouts.

 

 

 

 

 

Work Arrangement : Onsite  

Salary Range : $75,000.00   - $95,000.00
