Overview:

 

The Engineering Associate position will assist in the design, development, testing and implementation of engineering projects while supporting senior engineers and contributing to technical documentation and problem solving.  The position provides an opportunity for an immersive and broad exposure to the engineering disciplines at Midland, including design, product sustenance, drafting, regulatory compliance, and process management of a made-to-order product.  The position will be exposed to a high-tempo manufacturing operation, a rigorous repair function, interaction with Midland’s customers, an encompassing quality management system (QMS), and proceedings of regulatory and industry associations. The position is considered an entry point providing an opportunity to multiple career paths not only at Midland but across the broader parent organization.

 

Primary Responsibilities/Essential Responsibilities: 

 

  • Learn and support process for new product development, design modification, design waiver, and compliance with regulatory design requirements
  • Learn and support product sustenance activities, such as non-conformance investigations, troubleshooting product performance issues for customers, on-call technical support, and hands-on support of manufacturing
  • Learn and support process for engineering liquid level gauge to external customer and regulatory requirements
  • Learn the rules and regulations applicable to Midland operations and products.  Support ongoing efforts to operationalize compliance, including participation in regulatory committee work
  • Support engineering compliance with and coverage in QMS
  • Create 2D and 3D images for catalogue of products.
  • Assist in the design, development and testing of engineering projects and systems
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and cross functional teams to meet project goals and timelines
  • Conduct research, technical analysis, to support engineering initiatives
  • Contribute to technical documentation, reports and project records
  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of engineering processes and procedures
  • Evaluates and applies standard techniques, procedures and criteria to perform assigned tasks
  • Follow all safety protocols and requirements in the performance of the position to maintain a safe working environment

Qualifications/Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 0 to 3 years of relevant experience preferably in a manufacturing or regulated environment
  • Completion of one or more relevant internships during college education
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Working knowledge of 2D and 3D drafting software, such as AutoCAD and Creo
  • Possesses foundational engineering concepts
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings

 

Pysical Demands and Environmnetal Conditions:

 

  • Primary: General office environment requiring extended periods of sitting in ambient inside temperature, lighting and noise level
  • Secondary: Laboratory, production, warehouse environment with exposure to temperature and noise variations,  operating machinery/equipment and potential some exposure to chemicals and vapors
  • As Needed: Customer locations, railcar maintenance and manufacturing shops, railyards, outdoors, conferences and industry events and supplier and subcontractor locations 
  • Must be able to sit, walk, stand reach with hand and arms, stoop, kneel, bend and twist, grasp and manipulate with hands and fingers as needed   
  • Lifting generally less than 5lbs.  May occasionally be required to lift up to 25lbs without assistance
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus naturally or with corrective eyewear
  • Tools and Equipment:  Laptop computer, copy machine, hand tools, torque wrenches, calipers

 

Work Arrangement: Onsite

 

Pay Range: $80,395.00  - $99,000.00
