Job Summary

Coordinates and leads efforts supporting manufacturing and facility operations as it relates to Manufacturing Engineering and Maintenance requirements.   Provides leadership to a team of technical and skilled professionals to ensure they are engaged in the daily needs of the operations while supporting and applying Lean Manufacturing principles through Continuous Improvement activities to achieve Operational Excellence.

 

 Major Responsibilities/Activities

  • Lead the Manufacturing  Engineering and Maintenance Department team for site.
  • Prepare economic justification for capital equipment procurement and installation.
  • Assume or assign the Project Leader position during installation of approved capital equipment and other capital/improvement projects as approved.
  • Prepare plant layouts and determine process flow.
  • Develop and improve manufacturing processes for assembly and fabrication.
  • Determine and provide the infrastructure needed to achieve conformity to product requirements.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations.
  • Provide manufacturing design support to R&D for manufacturability and cost reduction.
  • Assume or assign the Project Leader position during the manufacturing preparation stage.
  • Organize transition of new products from R&D to production.
  • Supervise the design and coordinate the completed of Assembly fixtures.
  • Develop and oversee manufacturing routing instructions and approve release of same to manufacturing.
  • Establish testing procedures and quality checks for production equipment.
  • Coordinate with the Design Engineering Department for smooth transitions of Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), effectively communicating these changes to the impacted departments.
  • Observe and enforce all safety rules and PPE requirements applicable to the area.
  • Ensure all facility areas maintain a neat and clean work environment.
  • Promote the principles of Lean Manufacturing to achieve Operational Excellence (ODover)
  • Attend and participate in various production and facility related meetings as required as a member of facility leadership team.
  • Solicit and manage external third party vendors related to the installation, repair, upkeep and similar for machinery, equipment and the facility.
  • Other duties as determined for the role as needed or required

 

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises the daily activities of the Manufacturing Engineers, Manufacturing Technician and Machine Repair & Facility Maintenance Mechanics. 
  • Responsible for reviewing performance, salary administration, coaching and development.
  • Determine departmental staffing needs, assist in recruiting and placement of team members as needed.
  • Establish standards and insure compliance to safety and environmental compliance from team members.
  • Define roles and responsibilities within the area and effectively delegate work

 

Education Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Operations Management is required.  

 

Experience Requirements

  • Computer proficiency in a Windows environment required, preferably with Office 365 applications.  
  • Prior experience using manufacturing and maintenance software is preferred.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes associated with the production of engineered products is required.
  • Knowledge and application of ISO standards/ AAR standards in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Experience with implementing and driving Lean Manufacturing principles is preferred.
  • Must possess strong working knowledge of manufacturing materials and construction technologies.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and environmental standards is preferred.
  • Must possess effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of general manufacturing and maintenance methods s is required.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Prior supervisory experience is preferred
  • Effective leadership skills are required.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

 

Quality Responsibilities

  • Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any non-conformities relating to product, process and quality systems.
  • Identify and record any problems relating to the product, process and quality system.
  • Initiate, recommend or provide solutions through designated channels.
  • Verify the implementation of solutions.
  • Control further processing, delivery or installation of non-conforming product until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.

 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to normal office conditions like telephone, personal computer, reports and files.  The employee will also be exposed to normal conditions of a manufacturing facility.   The employee will be regularly required to talk and hear.  The employee may be required to stand for extended periods of time
