The Operations Manager, Midland Manufacturing will lead and develop a production and operations organization of 115 at our Skokie, IL, location. This is one of our largest and most prominent sites, manufacturing a diverse range of innovative, highly engineered and market-leading safety valves for rail-tank-car applications. Reporting to the Vice President & General Manager, OPW Fluid Transfer Solutions, the Operations Manager will champion a high-performance, process and metrics-driven culture, with a passion for continuous improvement and operational efficiency. The Operations Manager will also foster a team-based environment, with a focus on learning and development, and work with direct reports to ensure the entire organization is inspired and able to pursue professional growth. Additionally, the Operations Manager will collaborate with commercial peers within Midland and across OPW to delight existing customers with industry-leading quality and delivery, and pursue new opportunities to drive sustained growth. This role has career runway to operations and other leadership roles across OPW and Dover Corp.

 

Responsibilities

  • Implement and sustain manufacturing processes and technologies that continuously improve operational excellence foster a lean, safety oriented organization;
  • Oversee and optimize operational matters such as production, equipment and tooling acquisitions, aggressive production cost management, operations analysis, and delivery performance;
  • Lead the Production Supervision and Production Team Members in the design, installation and operation of manufacturing and support systems;
  • Lead manufacturing operations toward significant productivity gains, capacity utilization, delivery performance and resource utilization;
  • Provide required company-focused production support, equipment maintenance, resource consolidations and capacity planning and utilization;
  • Build and develop a high-performing team with a passion for continuous-improvement, partnership and professional development;
  • Foster a collaborative, “great place to work” culture as an enthusiastic leader who provides training and other opportunities for long-term career growth;
  • Coach the senior site team on leadership development and assist in creating development and performance evaluations; provide performance feedback and recommend salary increases;
  • Effectively deliver communications presentations to team members and OPW leadership;
  • Collaborate with commercial and other peers to drive customer satisfaction with market-leading quality and on-time delivery, and successfully pursue growth opportunities in adjacent markets.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, business or a related field’ MBA preferred;
  • Ten or more years of operations experience, with 5 or more years leading in-depth manufacturing planning, analysis, deployment and management;
  • Success managing manufacturing in a high-mix/low-volume, Kanban environment;
  • Proven experience improving key operating metrics using lean and other tools, and standard process from a corporate business or operating system (e.g., TPS);
  • Experience manufacturing highly engineered metal components and assemblies; knowledge of CNC machining, welding, and assembly processes strongly preferred;
  • Experience working in a complex, multi-site, global corporation and success collaborating across the organization to achieve group goals;
  • Commitment to the highest levels of customer satisfaction and experience optimizing customer-oriented metrics; success partnering with commercial peers to create new growth opportunities;
  • Career history characterized by strong employers operating in growth environments, stability in employment and success in assignments; demonstrated previous commitment to growth and development of previous employer(s);
  • Demonstrated executive presence and experience taking a firm stand, while continuing to foster a collaborative environment;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of a team in a manufacturing environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively problem-solve; experience with standard problem-solving tools (e.g., A3) strongly preferred;
  • Proven adherence to the highest levels of ethics and integrity.
