Position Summary

The VP/GM Fluid Handling provides leadership, develops and communicates the strategic direction, and directs the activities of OPW's Fluid Handling businesses comprised of the Group’s Rail, Cargo, and Chemical & Industrial business units to achieve OPW’s growth objectives while exemplifying the Dover Values. The ideal candidate will lead with integrity, foster collaboration, manage with flexibility and possess a “results-driven orientation.”


OPW goes to market globally directly or through a substantial network of dealers that provide value added services, including installation, parts, and service to end users. The business has strong global market equity, with a substantial market share, and a reputation for quality and dependability. OPW serves a variety of industries and believes that with strong market leadership, this business segment can continue to grow and enhance margin by developing new products and services, expanding its suite of solutions, refreshing existing products, and reinvigorating the distribution network.


The VP & GM will be charged with analyzing the company’s markets and customers, business unit performance against competitive metrics, and market opportunity, as well as the resource needs required to grow and thrive profitably. One key challenge will be finding growth/market solutions that reduce the Division’s exposure to cycles in the oil, gas, and chemical sectors.


Additionally, the VP & GM President will bring vision, energy, passion, and leadership to the division’s management team with a goal of aligning strategic objectives, building capabilities, managing costs, and delighting customers. The executive will work closely with distributors and customers and evaluate feedback, explore expanded commercial opportunities, prioritize research and development initiatives, and work with suppliers to encourage partnering and idea generation. The VP & GM will also lead efforts to identify, evaluate, and recommend opportunities to acquire technology, concepts, and/or to make logical and reasoned acquisitions.


The VP & GM is a member of OPW’s executive leadership team and contribute to the strategic and tactical management of the overall business. He/she will be accountable for P&L management, dedicated plant operations, strategic marketing, product portfolio development and profitability, channel/customer management and development, and global sales/brand positioning.


OPW Fluid Transfer Solutions has revenue of $200 million, roughly 700 associates and team members, and dedicated plants in the Chicago area, Canada, China, Australia, and The Netherlands. The Division also has distribution in Brazil and a shared plant in India.



  • Develop and communicate the long-term business and growth strategy and recommendations for a growth initiatives; gain team buy-in and leadership approval, and execute against the strategy;
  • Accelerate and energize marketing strategy, including product, positioning, pricing, and event/communications management that support long-term growth plans. Develop a detailed understanding of market size/growth and market share for product segments;
  • Lead the P&L through a strategic regional and product-portfolio review process;
  • Energize initiatives to identify potential acquisition strategies in adjacent technologies, enabling software, controls, and hardware bolt-ons to support a system or total solution;
  • Establish and lead a high- performing leadership team across plant management, sales & marketing, product development & engineering, and support functions;
  • Establish annual operating plans, budgets, capital appropriations, and manpower plans to assure the most productive utilization of human, financial and capital resources. Drive financial results, manage costs, and maintain/increase enterprise profitability;
  • Instill a customer-focused mindset and communicate with the customers and distribution channels, maintain close and regular contact with channel leadership, gain the voice of customer insight to drive new product development and innovation, and build a sense of energy and excitement within the channel for new vision and energy;
  • Drive commercial excellence – lead, teach and implement Lean processes and best practices across sales, channel management, application engineering, costing & estimating, and customer acceptance to enhance S&OP, working capital utilization, time and delivery, and customer satisfaction;
  • Establish key international business, channel, and customer relationships and lead execution of regional growth strategies;
  • Collaborate with operations leaders and global leaders across Dover to maximize business growth and opportunities for leverage;
  • Set the expectations and pace for talent selection, development, engagement, and performance management. Maximize the talent experience. Own the development of future leaders;
  • Comply with all applicable company and regulatory/legislative policies relating to ethical business conduct; Environmental, Health and Safety; and labor and employment;



The Vice President will likely have a broad-based general management profile, with roles across strategy/marketing, product development, and distribution, with exposure to direct and channel go-to-market models. Experience marketing and selling a process solution, including the underlying software and control systems is ideal. Candidates will also have:

  • Demonstrated success in growing and transforming a business, both organically and through acquistion;
  • Strong financial acumen – ability to build budgets, manage against operating statements and balance sheet, and drive an organization to meet and exceed set goals and objectives.
  • Experience in a public company and an acute understanding of the quarterly pressure that comes with this;
  • Experience leading a global product development initiative, identifying and recruiting new channel partners, and identifying and evaluating potential product or company acquisitions;
  • Excellent strategic leadership and communication skills with the ability to inspire, transform and achieve breakthrough results;
  • Must be able to engage others at senior leadership levels – customers, distributors, senior management, and leaders in the business community. Must be collaborative and able to build trust among senior leaders across the company;
