Job Title: Lead Engineer
Location: Richmond, VA
What we’re looking for:
We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Lead Engineer who will be responsible for managing the engineering configurator and document area within the Product Engineering organization. You will be leading and managing the team for implementing and maintaining the transactional processes that ensure data accuracy and on time delivery.
What you’ll be responsible for in this role:
- Process Administrator of the Engineering database (AS400, Anovia, Oracle)
- Management, track and report out the Document Control Metric(s)
- Develop metrics – continually measure and report on the CM process as to speed, volume, backlog, and quality – at minimum
- Manage the people assignments, performance, and personal development & skills
- Plan the document processing priorities according to Business requirements
- Provide the day-to-day support to Operations
- Input and accuracy of the BOM database(s) – product design information regardless of the software tools utilized
- Assign all part numbers, and change numbers for all design documents
- Change Request processing and monitoring
- Change Control and facilitation meetings
- Chair the release, request, and change team meeting CCB
- Control each master design document after its appropriated point of initial release and assign document revision levels
- Ensure the accurate and on-time respond for request of information (queues) to support Business / Customers requirements
- Follow up and close the request from information in alignment with our Business Partners (Sales, CAG, Product Management, Production, Quality)
- Create and update the procedures, work instructions, and ensure deployment among key employees
- Backup document databases and/or assure that information technology practices are satisfactory. Train all key personnel based on configuration management and the system (AS400, PDM, Oracle)
- Ensure the documents being processed meet to the Standards
- Ensure that non-value-added request for change are reviewed and filter out
- Coordinate and review the revision drafting for design document changes
- Control all design data and document transmittals to customers and agencies (DOE).
- Ensure that the changes are tracked to the actual date or specific units affected
- Ensure easy access to a tracking database & ensure the report can be produced as required.
- Ensure the quality of all design documents and changes thereto via application of configuration management and drafting standards
- Audit the system to ensure that it is followed or changed when appropriate
- Benchmark the Configurator Management system and ensure continuous improvement of the configurator and engineering document management process
- Ensure Cross functional collaboration with other departments
- Coordinate task requests with Dover India Innovation Center (DIIC)
- Lead kaizens for improving productivity, continuous improvement, and Corrective Actions. Provide data analytics.
- Control and submission of data to CCMS compliance, DOE Analysis to confirm meet specification, Energy DOE roadmap and handle approval process.
What are the basic qualifications?
- Requires a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
- Requires 7-10 years of experience with product design, BOM Configurator, PDM/PLM
- Requires 5 years of experience as a project management, or leading teams in a technical environment.
What are the preferred qualifications?
- MS Mechanical Engineering a plus
- Master's degree Engineering a plus
- MBA a plus
- Lean/Six Sigma Certification a plus.
- System Engineering Certification (INCOSE) a plus
- Proficient in negotiation and conflict management.

- Ability to effectively problem-solve using problem solving tools and techniques (A3, fishbone, root cause, 5-Whys, six-sigma, lean)
- Demonstrate an innovative mindset with ability to generate solutions to customer needs
- Engineering skills in CAD modeling, mechanical design, tooling design, heat transfer and materials.
- Experience with complexity reduction, product architecture and systems engineering.
- Manage system integration of projects in product development and advanced development.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Strong Technical and design problem solver.
