Job Title:  Machine Operator Helper 

Location:     South Chesterfield, VA              

 

What we’re looking for: 

 

We are looking for a Machine Operator Helper who will be responsible for fabricating products using proper tools and machines. Fabricates various types of products and components, meeting defined production schedules. Perform basic and advanced operator preventative maintenance tasks. Operate and/or use related machinery, equipment, and tools necessary to complete assembly / parts fabrication to specifications, which include hoists, slings, grinders (portable & bench), drills, presses, punches, saws, bending machines, tape measure, hand tools, etc.  

 

What you’ll be responsible for in this role:  

 

  • Operate a press brake or punch machine. 

  • Read job specifications and previous operating data to determine machine adjustments and material requirements. Ensure job materials are in order prior to machine set-up.  

  • Set stops or guides to specified length as required by job instructions.  

  • Perform changeovers between different products to ensure machinery is configured correctly.  

  • Meet or exceed prescribed job standard for set-up times, line speeds, and scrap.  

  • Observe machinery for product defects or machine malfunction. Make corrections as required to ensure product meets required specifications. Measure material dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation.  

  • Perform required measurements and quality checks on product produced to ensure proper product length, geometry, and adherence to required specifications.  

  • Complete required production documentation accurately and in a timely manner.  

  • Ensure coordination with materials group to ensure proper raw materials are on hand.  

  • Report any unsafe working conditions to the production supervisor.  

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly workspace.  

 

What are the basic qualifications?  

 

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)  

What are the preferred qualifications?  

 

  • 1 to 2 years of fabrication/machining preferred

Essential Physical/Environmental Requirements: 

 

• Must be able to operate power tools and perform tasks that require fine motor skills (ex: threading nuts onto bolts, starting a screw, etc.)  

• May be required to perform specific tasks that involve standing, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, squatting, or kneeling.  

• Must be able to lift with or without mechanical aids on a recurring basis (up to 50 lbs.).  

• Work is performed within a production environment, subject to temperature variations, hazardous chemicals, mechanical parts, increased noise levels and dust.
