Job Title: Manager, Materials
Location: Richmond, VA
What we are looking for:
Reporting to the Material Flow & Inventory Manager, the Manager, Material is responsible for managing the control, accuracy, storage and replenishment of materials within the production facility and external stocking locations. Develops and implements visual management systems throughout supermarket, receiving, and cell locations. Uses data to help compile and analyze information used in developing the plan for every part (PFEP). Audits, analyzes and reports on adherence, constraints and issues that may impact the success of implementation with forward thinking solution-based problem solving applied. Reporting to this role will be 50 associates and 2 supervisors.
What you will be responsible for in this role:
- Leads Materials and Receiving teams in plant 2.
- Develops, implements, and maintains optimum material flow technologies.
- Create visual representations of material flow and design optimum PFEP, to create optimal flow through the three facilities.
- Tracks inventory trends and reports to management on root cause analysis and problem-solving strategies. A primary objective is to ensure effective systems are in place to maximize material flow and minimize expenses to the Company
- Bridge between purchasing, scheduling and production planning to ensure material is available in the right production sequence.
- Partner with departments to mitigate shortages.
- Partner with engineering to identify alternate materials if delivery would delay production or lead to an increase in excess inventory.
- Manage vendor relationships ensuring supplier managed inventory systems are operating properly.
- Utilize ERP system to provide data on demand history and usage for use in the parts plan.
- Calculate and maintain optimal inventory levels to support safety stock needed to absorb demand variation while supporting inventory turns objectives.
- Help create SOP's and standard work
- Trains, coaches and mentors the entire team on the process, SOP's, audit results, etc.
What are the basic qualifications?
- Minimum 8 years’ experience working in materials / materials management.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working with LEAN material control systems
What are the preferred qualifications?
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering or supply chain management
- Experience leading a team.
- Demonstrated ability to partner with employees at all levels of an organization.
- Customer-oriented mindset; ability to make and maintain good relationships with vendors.
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- APICS or ISM Certification preferred
