Job Title:  NPD / DTV Engineer

Location:  Richmond, VA  

 

What we are looking for:

 

This position is responsible for New Product Development (NPD) of refrigerated merchandisers, as well as Design to Value (DTV) cost reduction efforts on the existing product lines.   

 

What you will be responsible for in this role:

 

  • Manage the NPD project from concept to completion, including design, proof of concept, test and evaluation, transition to production, cross-functional coordination of launch activities, etc.
  • Collaborate with Product Management to define the product market specification for new refrigerators.
  • Brainstorm new and innovative solutions to achieve the product market specification.
  • Develop CAD solid models and engineering simulation of proposed concepts.
  • Collaborate with Product Management to validate the solution with the customer.
  • Develop a test plan and work with the Engineering Lab to validate the solution.
  • Conduct field tests to validate the solution.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering on the fabrication plan for new products.
  • Brainstorm cost saving projects on the existing products.
  • Collaborate with Strategic Sourcing and Manufacturing Engineering to implement cost saving projects.

 

What are the basic qualifications?

 

  • Requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or its educational equivalent) in an engineering discipline. 
  • 3+ years of experience in design of industrial products

 

What are the preferred qualifications?

 

  • MS Mechanical Engineering a plus
  • Proficient at MCAD modeling of proposed solutions
  • Engineering skill in heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluids, and refrigeration
  • Experience with simulation tools:  FEA for structural, thermal, and fluid flow analysis
  • Lean/Six Sigma experience a plus
  • SolidWorks experience preferred

  • Strong track record of NPD and DTV accomplishments
  • Experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with a high degree of product and process complexity
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a matrixed, functional organization with the ability to influence stakeholders in various functional groups
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization
  • Experience in driving continuous improvement and providing leadership in utilizing various analysis tools
  • Successful candidate will be able to show documented results in achieving cost reductions to both products and processes
  • Innovative mind with ability to generate solutions to customer needs
  • Organized with strong project management skills: resource planning, scheduling, and reporting of status
