Job Title: Product Engineer
Location: Richmond, VA
What we’re looking for:
We are looking for a team member to join our Product Engineering team. This role will be responsible for product development and sustainment through the creation and revision of refrigeration, plastic, and sheet metal components. This team member will serve as a liaison between all parts of the organization to translate customer wants and needs into a manufacturable product on the assembly floor.
What you’ll be responsible for in this role:
- Apply knowledge in thermodynamics, fluids mechanics, and engineering design experience to size and select mechanical components.
- Utilize 3D CAD software to create and revise display case components as needed.
- Prepare Bills of Material (BOM) to specify components such as compressors, heat exchangers, sheet metal, plastic extrusions, wiring, and others.
- Prepare preliminary and conceptual designs for customer submittal drawings.
- Participate in engineering project teams and performs assigned tasks.
- Ensure designs comply with regulatory codes and agency listings (UL, NSF, DOE).
- Assist manufacturing in troubleshooting production issues related to product design.
- Interface directly with our manufacturing team to clarify questions on drawings and designs.
- Work with manufacturing on process and product improvement projects.
What are the basic qualifications?
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum six months to one-year related experience
What are the preferred qualifications?
- Experience with product design in a manufacturing environment.
- Additional experience in six sigma and lean would be added advantage.
To be a great fit for the role:
- 3D CAD expertise as well as PLM experience (Solid Works & Enovia preferred)
- Experience with solid modeling in the production environment is desirable
- Hands-on experience in a fast-paced, customized manufacturing environment
- Previous experience reviewing mechanical designs for improvements
- Intermediate technical skills
- Good problem-solving skills with a drive for results
- Good written and verbal skills
- Basic project management skills
- Ability to build peer relationships as well as work independently
- Must be action-oriented, ethical in value, and have a strong customer focus
- FEA experience desirable
