Job Title: Senior Manager, Material Flow & Inventory Control

Location: Richmond, VA

 

What we are looking for: 

 

This position is accountable for all inbound material, inventory control, accuracy and production material flow to support the manufacturing of refrigerated display cases. Must display Business acumen and a passion for making a difference in the business and the ability to drive processes across a system, see trends and analyze data. The Material flow & Inventory control Manager will lead a team of specialists to optimize inventory storage, availability, material presentation and delivery to production Kanban locations following the consumption transactions to Finished goods and to Logistics/Shipping function. This role will oversee receiving, warehousing, and production replenishment. This position will also require close collaboration with the quality, purchasing and production scheduling teams to ensure proper component availability.  Will have 3-5 direct reports.

 

What you will be responsible for in this role:

 

  • Conduct investigations or tests of considerable complexity pertaining to the development of new manufacturing operations, major production activities, exploration of product and/or process problems, along with the definition and selection of new concepts and approaches in material flow.
  • Manage and evaluate the activities of all supervisors and lead persons in the receiving, kitting, outside material movement, replenishment including performance measurement and reviews.
  • Design and control work processes used to facilitate the accomplishment of organizational plans as they pertain to inventory control and material flow.
  • Develop effective KPI’s to measure and improve team performance.
  • Design and implement a world class inventory management system that seamlessly integrates with the Lean Manufacturing process/techniques
  • Provide necessary leadership and training to build and maintain a strong inventory management team. Writes and maintains departmental work instructions and maintains departmental training documentation.
  • Interfaces with other plant departments as required to maintain inventory accuracy and optimize material flow. Works with productions planners and material planners with Kanban systems, consignment programs and cycle counts. Remove material flow constraints through long-term sustainable corrective actions and solutions
  • Plans and manages the preparation and implementation of short and long-range inventory plans for raw materials to minimize material costs and meet delivery requirements of the customer(s).
  • Manages cycle counting to ensure a level of accuracy is maintained that meets our business and auditor s need
  • Liaises directly with purchasing and development teams to maintain a thorough understanding of current and future product needs.
  • Tracks inventory trends and reports to management on root cause analysis and problem-solving strategies. A primary objective is to ensure effective systems are in place to maximize material flow and minimize expenses to the Company
  • Develop effective KPI s to measure and improve team s performance
  • Participate in and Lead Kaizen improvement projects
  • Performs miscellaneous related duties and carries out special projects as assigned

 

What are the basic qualifications? 

 

  • Master's in supply chain management or another business-related field
  • 10-15 years of progressive experience in Opex projects, Lean Manufacturing, Material Flow
  • Minimum 10 years of experience leading a team

 

 

What are the preferred qualifications?

 

  • Strong knowledge of inventory management in a Lean Manufacturing Environment
  • Experience in different supply logistics environments and solutions
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication and interpersonal skills along with the ability to coach and maintain effective relationships with staff members
  • An investigative nature with advanced math and technical skills
  • Six-Sigma Black Belt Certification
  • Kaizen Project Experience
  • Masters or related logistics field
