The Global Design Engineer designs and commercializes solutions and Non-Standard Accessories that allow M-I’s products and services to be integrated into customers’ production facilities. This will include using CAD software to develop conceptual and detailed designs of equipment in accordance with the customer specific requirements and agreed specifications. The Design Engineer will interface with M-I’s preferred vendors to determine the cost to deliver the designed solution, including all necessary regulatory compliance certifications and provide commercial quotes to M-I’s Pre-Sales and Sales teams. Upon receiving an order from a customer for the designed equipment/solution, the responsible Design Engineer will submit the necessary paperwork to have the appropriate part numbers created and made fully saleable in the appropriate countries and regions.


What you will do: 

•    Using the PTC Creo CAD software, complete component and equipment design in accordance with customer and project requirements and agreed upon specifications.
•    Work with Regulatory Compliance personnel to identify the applicable regulatory requirements that will apply to designed components and equipment based on Global location of the end customer and type of product being fabricated and sold.
•    Work with M-I’s preferred vendors to determine M-I’s cost to fabricate and deliver the designed product, including all appliable regulatory requirements.
•    Using the defined processes and guidelines, develop commercial quotes for the designed product that will be delivered to M-I’s Pre-Sales Engineer and Account Managers to be included in M-I’s overall customer facing project quotes.
•    Upon receiving a customer order for a designed component/equipment, complete and submit the required paperwork and drive the component through the Part Creation process, known as Change Request/Change Order (CR/CO).
•    Act as PPOC for questions or issues that arise during the New Part Approval and Creation process.
•    Use the CR/CO process to make existing parts saleable in new countries and regions, which may include the need to address regulatory compliance requirements.
•    Use the CR/CO process to source existing parts from new or different vendors.
•    Work with the Third Party Device Engineer to identify new products to add to the Global Non-Standard Accessories catalogue.
•    Act as consultant/liaison to Project Managers regarding custom designed equipment and Non-Standard Accessories, providing progress updates regarding Part Creation and Equipment fabrication.
•    Collaborate with the Third Party Device Sourcing Manager to identify preferred vendors.
•    Collaborate with M-I’s Product Divisions to identify opportunities to globalize regional and custom solutions.
•    Identify opportunities to use standard products and solutions in place of creating new parts and solutions.
•    Support the other Design Engineers with the development of new designs.
•    Participate in and lead Risk Assessments and Design Reviews when needed.
•    Support the Global Design Engineering Manager with the development and implementation of new processes to improve overall business performance.
•    Identify opportunities to quote for profession Design services and assist the Design Engineering Manager with productization/commercialization of Design Engineering and Consulting services.


What you need to have: 

•    Bachelor or comparable degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or other discipline.
•    Engineering background with 5 to 7 years of experience designing components and machinery 
•    Proven track record of design development using CAD software.
•    Knowledge of design principles and design development.
•    Some field experience involving the installation or maintenance of industrial equipment in the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods industry.
•    Experience and knowledge of Product Regulatory Compliance.
•    Fluency in English and German, ability to speak and write French is a plus (but not required)
•    Acts in a professional manner and enhances customer satisfaction.
•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills at all levels for the organization.
•    Ability to work in a multi-tasked environment.
•    Direct customer interface experience preferred.
•    Documentation skills a MUST.
•    Experience with packaging line equipment, preferably in pharmaceutical and/or food packaging industries.
•    Experience with PTC Creo CAD software is a plus.
•    Microsoft Office 365 applications skills.
