Job Title:        Cost Accountant            

Location:       Sylmar, CA          


What we are looking for:


We are looking for a Cost Accountant to be responsible for the financial accuracy and maintenance of the Company’s cost system.  This position, with guidance from the Cost Accounting Manager and the Division Controller, will help develop and implement routine cost analysis, key metrics, and productivity tracking measures.


What you will be responsible for in this role:


  • Maintain and enhance the accuracy and usefulness of the Company’s cost system.
  • Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Supply Chain, and Operations to enhance bill of material accuracy.
  • Partner with the Supply Chain team on purchase price to improve accuracy and enhance our understanding of the impacts of purchased component pricing.
  • Maintain and audit all worksheets, journal entries and reconciliations required for the month end cost accounting close through the trial balance are completed and analyzed.
  • Assist in the evaluation and implementation of costing methods that promote efficiency and effectiveness of the costing of inventory and cost of sales, as well as internal control structure, processes and monitoring.
  • Assist in the calculation and management of excess and obsolete inventory.
  • Review operational expenses such as freight, material cost, labor, and supplies.
  • Lead daily cycle counts and follow up with proper personnel for significant adjustments.
  • Assist with internal and external inventory audits as they pertain to inventory accounting.
  • Identify process improvements to reduce costs.
  • Analyze changes in commodity pricing to determine effect on product costs.
  • Other duties as assigned, according to the changing needs of the business.


What are the basic qualifications?


  • B.S. in Accounting, Finance, or related field and 3+ years progressive experience in the Cost Accounting
  • Advanced Excel (VLOOKUP, PIVOT, Complicated and embedded formulas)


What are the preferred qualifications?


  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Oracle and AS400 experience desired.

  • Willingness to ‘get hands dirty’ and spend time on plant floor to establish link of physicals to financials
  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Strong accounting and analytical skills
  • Advanced skills in MS Office suite and financial reporting programs
  • Experience with Power BI, Power Query, or MS Access a plus
  • Experience with data modeling a plus
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple activities/projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong leadership, attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and take on new tasks with high level of difficulty
