What we are looking for:

We are looking for a Product Engineering Manager who will be responsible for leading a team of Mechanical and Electrical Engineers in a fast-paced innovative environment. This person will be the technical leader to manage the overall daily operation and collaboration between the teams. A critical function is also to lead and ensure the development and improvement of their team members, processes and procedures to drive the delivery of extraordinary results. This position will be an active participant in the evaluation, design, and overall management of the group, as well as the development of all members of the engineering team.  This leader will establish organizational and technical strategies to advance Dover Food Retail Food for Glass and Door Display products to the next level of service and reliability. Collaboration with other functional leaders in operations, sourcing, finance, and product management will be essential this this role.

We are seeking a dynamic and innovative Product Engineering Manager. This key position will be based in our new manufacturing operations located in Sylmar, CA, reporting to the Director of Engineering. 

You will be leading and coaching the engineers to improve the metrics for safety, quality, delivery and cost. You will be planning, analyzing and communicating effectively the progress and risks related to the projects.

Product Engineering Manager will require regular interaction with the New Product Development (NPD) and Product Engineering (PE) teams.  You will have the opportunity to collaborate and support the design, prototyping and validation for the development for doors, lighting and merchandising systems.


Essential Competencies:

  • Manage functions of Product Engineering, Engineering to order, and quality improvement collaborating with Document Control with support from the engineers, designers.
  • Lead in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with a high degree of product and process complexity.
  • Drive continuous improvement and provide leadership in utilizing various analysis tools
  • Provide technical support for field issues and assign resources to aid in field support as required.
  • Ensure project development activities are completed on time, meeting all requirements, including cost, quality & performance targets to support the project plans and project execution
  • Act as the technical project manager providing leadership to the engineers and designers.
  • Drive action plans to deliver product technical deliverables through Concept Validation, Design Validation and Process Validation
  • Conducts regular design, quality, cost, manufacturability and safety reviews with project team and support functions.
  • Technical support to customers regarding Quality Assurance questions or problems.
  • Interface with suppliers regarding new designs, supplier questions or material quality issues.
  • Lead the development of test plans (DVP) and FMEA with the engineers.
  • Design, prototyping, validation and implementation of new products.
  • Manage budget (expenses) and Capital (Capex) Plan.
  • Lead - directs the efforts of engineers and technicians or other team members to assure successful project completion.  Will often be required to multitask and coordinate multiple large projects simultaneously.


Minimum Quantifiable Competencies:

  • Requires a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Advanced degree in Materials engineering or business management preferred.
  • Requires 7-10 years of experience with product design, CAD modeling, GD&T.
  • Requires 5 years of experience as a project management, or leading teams in a technical environment.


Strengths needed for this role: 

  • Ability to work collaboratively and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to effectively problem-solve using problem solving tools and techniques (A3, fishbone, root cause, 5-Whys, six-sigma, lean)
  • Must have strong computer skills utilizing, MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, Explorer, E-drawings, MS Project as well as proficiency with PowerPoint and Explorer is essential.
  • Project Management Certification and agile experience is nice to have. Ability to facilitate activities necessary to a project’s completion.
  • Must have strong mathematical knowledge, together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, handbook formulas; all varieties of precision measuring instruments, personal computer and computer software applications involving a thorough skills knowledge plus the application of basic theory.
  • Ability to read, write, verbalize and comprehend instructions and correspondence at the highest levels in the English language.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong Technical and design problem solver.
