POSITION SUMMARY:

The Manager, Mechanical Engineering will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing all core products as well as new product development. This includes researching, planning, organizing, and executing oversight of engineering projects and daily sustaining activities. The selected candidate will be responsible for managing the PDP (Product Development Process) to lead cross-functional teams in the successful launch of new products and product extensions that meet performance and quality metrics. In addition, this person will be responsible for maintaining “lessons learned” to continuously improve design practices and engineering process so that customer value is continuously improved. Finally, this individual will be responsible for working with the product management group and the manufacturing group to assure that internal and external customer needs are met by our core products and through new product development.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:

  • Manage a team of engineers and designers to assure that all custom orders, drawing requests, price quotes, and part request are processed accurately and according to set timeframes.
  • Manage a team of engineers and designers to assure that the PDP is properly executed by producing accurate and timely outputs such as product designs, drawings, BOMs, specifications, validation data and product manuals.
  • Act as a “player coach” by mentoring engineers and designers to produce design outputs that meet project goals while providing support for critical path project tasks.
  • Assure that designs adhere to industry quality and safety standards and that risk analysis documentation is maintained in support of these standards.
  • Work with product management and manufacturing to maintain and prioritize a list of development and enhancement projects to improve customer value and reduce internal cost to achieve revenue targets.
  • Assist product management in developing and maintaining product generation plans which support future market trends to assure that our core products meet the needs of the target market segment.
  • Assist in the management of the corporate intellectual property by managing the patent process as a critical portion of product development.
  • Assist with new supplier development efforts in conjunction with cost, quality or technology improvements that support new core products and core product enhancements.
  • Understand the value equation with customers, market, and products to assure that product cost of ownership is maximized while maintaining the industry leading quality and performance reputation of the company.

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 3 Minimum years related experience to the essential job functions. 5 years preferred.
  • Prefer 5 years of experience using Pro-E, SolidWorks, or another 3D CAD system.
  • Able to perform hand calculations to determine load and stress in structural members.
  • Experience in simulation analysis (i.e. FEA) of materials and structures.
  • Able to determine required specifications for the following components: Pumps, motors, gear reduction, bearings, and fasteners.
  • Hydraulic system knowledge: Components of the hydraulic system, including the devices that actuate, discharge, and control the flow of hydraulic fluid and those devices which sense, control, and limit hydraulic pressure.
  • Hydraulic system abilities: Calculate cylinder cycle times, hydraulic forces, and required piping/hose size.
  • Experience developing conceptual designs and budgetary quotes.
  • The candidate must also have a proven track record of employing a product development process and project management skills to lead cross-functional teams in the execution and launch of new products and new product extensions.
  • The candidate should be able to exhibit strong problem-solving skills such as: 6-Sigma, 8D, A3, 5 Why, PDCA, etc. to solve complex problems.
  • The candidate must have strong leadership skills and be results oriented. This person must be a strong communicator that is creative yet believes in a structured approach to solving problems and meeting goals. 
  • The candidate must be a self-starter, work at a fast pace, and yet still be highly detailed and accurate.  They must show project management capabilities such as being goal oriented while being able to identify high priority, critical path tasks.
