Position Summary: 

Helps improve Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost in assigned cells.  Preserves production flow and improves work in the cell. Enables a continuous improvement culture with Team Members in assigned areas as well as across the organization.  Escalates issues in a timely manner.  Working Team Leader as needed.

 

Roles and Key Responsibilities:

Safety (Ensures Team Members are performing their jobs safely every day):

  • Supports Team Members in completing their jobs in a safe manner by helping provide the right tools, equipment, and training.
  • Responds to, reports, and escalates safety issues in a timely manner.
  • Performs safety checks and audits (e.g., Behavioral Based Observations).
  • Maintains cleanliness and order of work area, equipment and tools and participates in 5S and Kaizen Initiatives.

Quality (Ensures Quality Product):

  • Drives a Quality culture in assigned areas (“Do not make, accept or pass on a defect.”).
  • Ensures that finished product meets the sales order specifications and complies with all company quality standards.
  • Routinely audits Quality of product and workmanship, as well as area Quality processes.
  • Coaches and trains Team Members using Standard Work Instructions/Control Plans.  Routinely audits for adherence to these documents. 
  • Guides and/or participates in root-cause problem-solving and resolution of internal/external customer concerns with Team Members.

Delivery (Preserves Production Flow to meet Customer Demand):

  • Trains and cross-trains Team Members towards the goal of “flexible workforce”.
  • Is able to “flex-in” on production line to catch up, meet line pace, and/or cover absenteeism.
  • Partners with Supply Chain to communicate and resolve Parts Availability issues.
  • Supports Scheduling Boards, Team Improvement Boards, daily production boards, and other visual managing tools.

Cost:

  • Optimizes available staffing to meet line pace and achieve productivity targets.
  • Supports ongoing continuous improvement projects using appropriate problem-solving tools and techniques.
  • Ensures Work Order transactions are accurate and timely.

Morale:

  • Responds to and escalates Team Members’ concerns in a timely manner. 
  • Has the ability to resolve Team Member issues and effectively de-escalate tense situations.  
  • Gives input into team member performance.

Other:

  • Must be proficient in reading basic engineering prints and manufacturing documents.
  • Dependable with good attendance record.  Acceptance of overtime assignments may also be required to meet company goals and objectives.
  • Works on/leads special projects and performs other tasks as assigned.

 

Requirements:

Education:  Requires a High School diploma or GED.

Requirements:

Education:  Requires a High School diploma or GED.

Skills: Coach, mentor and provide leadership to all team members.  Must possess thorough understanding of complex machine tools; read and understand complex blueprints, specifications, electrical schematics and instructions, and operate welding machines. Team Leader must possess good people skills resulting in treating employees with respect while dealing with them in a firm, fair, consistent manner.  Must have good organizational and planning skills.

Knowledge: Must be able to acquire or learn the principles of LEAN, continuous improvement, and problem-solving skills as required.  An associate degree or certificate of accomplishment is preferred but not mandatory, depending on the skills, knowledge, and abilities assessment of the candidate. Requires ability to understand general arithmetic; ability to write in an understandable manner; understand verbal or written instructions; ability to read and understand instructions, lists and billing materials; use PC based applications, including Outlook, and Microsoft Office, knowledge normally acquired through high school or equivalent experience.

Abilities: Requires ability to read, comprehend and follow complicated verbal instructions, and be able to communicate effectively with his/her team and internal/external customers. Requires ability to follow verbal instructions and to communicate with outside sources and internal departments in person and via telephone. Requires the ability to read written instructions, correspondence, and other documentation, observe machinery and drawings, as well as operate office equipment such as computers and printers.  Uses color and depth perception to check for product quality problems.  Requires capability of performing essential job functions in an established office environment under normal lighting and climate control tolerances, with some exposure to plant environments with the presence of dust, fumes, noise, and fluctuating temperatures due to lack of climate control.

Mental: Requires normal attention with periods of high concentration intermittently to operate machinery approximately 50% of time.

Physical: Requires walking/standing approximately 80%, sitting approximately 20% and lifting up to 40 pounds approximately 5% of time; involves some repetitive overhead work 5% of time; involves repetitive stooping, forward bending and crouching approximately 5% of time. 

Manual Dexterity: Requires use of hands, arms and feet for repetitive lifting; use of hands and arms to operate welding equipment, general hand tools, computers (Outlook, Word and company systems), copy machine, other general office equipment and to record written information. 

Audible Demands: Requires ability to follow verbal instructions and to hear for safety purposes.

Visual: Requires the ability to visually observe essential functions for satisfactory job performance and safety; color and depth perception required.

Environmental: Exposure to plant environments with the presence of dust, fumes, noise, and fluctuating temperatures due to lack of climate control.
