ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Commodity expert i.e. product, industry, suppliers, regulatory, etc.
  • Maintain commodity or product line knowledge of current industry conditions including:
    • Pricing information and trends
    • Evaluation of market conditions and identify potential commodity risk
    • Vendor information to eliminate sole sourcing
    • Understand regulatory requirements when sourcing
    • Suggest improvements as per quantitative evaluation
  • Manage vendor relationships, including:
    • Selection and performance
    • Develop, implement and maintain vendor managed/consignment inventory programs.
    • Develop, implement and maintain a vendor performance and relationship management program.
    • Analyze vendor quality trends and initiate corrective actions as determined.
  • Negotiate terms, pricing and delivery/service conditions with vendors. Partner with material buyer/planners, shared service and manufacturing associates as required to accomplish:
    • Research products.
    • Clarify specifications.
    • Document competitive bidding.
    • Coordinate and evaluate engineering changes regarding new products and modification to existing products to guarantee that all outside purchased items meet necessary specifications.
  • Analyze and manage the purchase order life cycle and initiate process improvement projects as required.
  • Lead system enhancement projects.
  • Lead cost reduction projects reducing overall company spend
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Advanced computer knowledge with a focus in Excel including database development and management 
  • General understanding of the legal aspects of purchasing.
  • Must possess ERP knowledge. Oracle experience a plus
  • Ability to communicate effectively with sales representatives and other personnel by phone/virtual, in person, or through written communication.
  • Work under pressure in a detailed and organized manner.
  • Assimilate information to make decisive decisions.
  • Able to work in a team environment.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in supply chain mgmt., business or technical field required.
  • Prior commodity sourcing experience required
  • Five to seven years as a buyer or any combination of experience, education, or training that would provide the level of knowledge, skill, and ability required.
