Optical Design Engineer

Location: Readiness to work from our current location at 39 Farbiarska Street in Warsaw till later in 2025, when we are opening our new facility at 105 Katowicka Avenue in Kajetany.

About the position:

 

As an Optical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design of optical systems with implementation in a mechanical system for the comprehensive design of laser devices.

 

You’ll create manufacturing and assembly drawings of components, manage technical documentation and follow CAD documentation archiving procedures.

 

You will work closely with other engineers to integrate optical systems into larger systems and ensure they meet all specifications, regulatory standards, and customer requirements.

 

What you will do:

 

  • Develop new optical systems and components, including lenses, mirrors, and other optical elements, using optical design software and simulation tools.
  • Create detailed designs of optical and mechanical systems, components and products using Autodesk Inventor CAD software.
  • Perform optical and mechanical tolerance analysis.
  • Test and evaluate prototypes, troubleshoot, and document designs and results.
  • Document designs, test procedures, and results.
  • Create Bill of Materials (BOM) and prepare and place orders for details, components and subassemblies for prototypes.
  • Work with Purchasing, Planning, and the company's warehouse for components for prototype assembly and support manufacturing and sourcing teams.
  • Identify the root cause of any quality problems that occur during prototype assembly.
  • Identify design features that cause technological problems and initiative in presenting proposals for their solution.
  • Collaborate with engineers in the evaluation of the design solutions and their impact on the production process and technologies used.
  • This position may require some domestic and international travel (up to 10%).

 

What you need to have:

 

  • Master's or PhD degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in optical design and engineering, with a proven track record of successful project exécution. Experience in laser technology preferred.
  • Good understanding of optics principles, including wave and ray optics, diffraction and interference.
  • Knowledge of optical design software (e.g. Zemax, Code V, 3DOptix), computational optics and simulation tolos, CAD software for mechanical integration (Autodesk Inventor preferred).
  • Knowledge of optical materials and their properties, including anti-reflective coatings and treatments and experience with optical manufacturing techniques and testing methodologies
  • Experience in designing systems for specific applications, including laser optics.
  • Ability to lead mechanical projects.
  • Experience working with a variety of optical and mechanical documentation in an industrial environment.
  • Manual experience in the assembly of designed prototype.
  • Knowledge of Windchill document management software and respective ISO standards and regulatory compliance familiarity would be beneficial.
