Position Summary:

This is a critical data science position to understand data patterns, relationships, business intelligence, analytics, and reporting systems for Dover Corporation. The person in this role will be accountable for developing advanced machine and deep-learning models, performance accuracy measures, defining standards on measurement, reporting and reviewing these needs to provide support as part of the data domain subject matter expertise function within the Dover Digital organization.


We need someone who has demonstrated success in the form of patents or journal publications within ambiguous environments. This role will solve problems for our customers within large-scale manufacturing environments with a balanced execution of speed and solid collaborative skills.


We are looking for a disciplined, quantitative individual with excellent communication skills to collaborate with senior leaders and cross-functional colleagues on projects and any associated risk. The individual must be a proven technical expert who can work within a strong team, influence others, and motivate to drive strong performance.


Dover’s corporate-wide Digital team is seeking full time Data Scientists, reporting to the Chief Data Scientist. The role involves working closely with members of the several Dover operating companies, in order to identify and deliver cutting edge Data Science-based offerings.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop new Data Science / Analytics based solutions and applications that fundamentally impact the business in terms of revenue growth and / or efficiency gains
  • Work with world-class engineering talent and Technical Product Managers within Dover operating companies and its customers to identify and validate strong Value Propositions
  • Keep current with new and developing technologies as they appear and assist in determining the feasibility of implementing new technologies
  • Be Product Owner for data science products; Own the entire cycle of design, development, and implementation of the data science solutions ranging from IoT and sensor data to enterprise information systems
  • Communicate with internal stakeholders on project updates
  • Be a valued member of the Digital team and demonstrate commitment to playing a critical role for the Digital function within Dover


Eligibility Requirements

This role is restricted to U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Dover Corporation will require proof of status prior to employment.


Qualifications / Requirements/Desired Characteristics:

Must-haves for the role:

  • PhD in Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Science, Applied Engineering, Statistics with 4+ years of relevant experience in designing and delivering Analytics / Data Science capabilities
  • Expertise in four or more of technical areas in: digital signal processing, radio frequency analysis, geolocation, computer vision, time series modeling, machine learning, artificial intelligence, deep learning, Bayesian and frequentist statistics, mathematical optimization.
  • Demonstrated ability to program in Python and / or R for quick demonstration of ideas as well as robust, efficient, scaled-up software systems
  • Excellent coding skills especially designing pseudo codes-algorithms
  • Experience with Linux-Ubuntu based OS
  • Intuitive sense of how quantitative and technical work aligns closely with business priorities and business value
  • Ability to effectively work with business leads and desire to influence business decisions
  • Highly collaborative, team-player attitude, with strong inter-personal communication
  • Experience with agile best practices, especially Scrum and Kanban for software development
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent history of patent or journal publication
  • Deep understanding of the literature and practice of one or more of the pillars of Descriptive, Predictive, and Prescriptive Analytics.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%


Preferred skills:

  • Deep hands-on experience building computer vision and anomaly detection systems involving algorithm development in fields such as image-segmentation, signal processing, registration, tracking, feature extraction, detection, and classification
  • Post-doctoral or industrial experience inventing and developing algorithms in computer vision and/or technologies encompassing Industrial Internet of Things
  • Strong history of patents and solid publication record in peer-reviewed journals and conferences in computer vision, image and signal processing, time-series, anomaly detections in sensor-data and relevant application fields
  • Contribution to public domain codebases and/or significant GitHub portfolio to demonstrate mastery and impact
  • Experience in writing grant proposals, executing and researching based on grants, including demonstrated successful communication with government agencies
  • Proven awareness of real-time analytics development and deployment
  • Demonstrated awareness of industry and technology trends in one or more sectors where Dover Corporation operates
  • Established awareness of customer and stakeholder management and business metrics
  • Expertise in PyTorch, Tensor Flow, Keras, Python or R
  • Expertise with model packaging and release through Docker / Kubernetes on Microsoft Azure / Amazon Web Services platform
