Primary Function:

Position is responsible for Set-Up, Operation, Basic Maintenance and Data Recording of automated assembly (SMT) equipment.    

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:


Primary Daily Responsibilities

Responsible for the set-up/tear–down of equipment including but not limited to the installation of reeled components, the installation of printer stencils and processing of assemblies through the SMT Process.

  • Operate/Monitor automated equipment as follows:
    • Set-Up Feeders per established IFS / Pole Zero WI guidelines.
    • Load raw circuit cards into the stencil machine and verify that machine has accurately aligned the stencils with the circuit cards.
    • Verify Stencil Printing via SPI (Solder Paste Inspection) Process.
    • Load the PCB into the component placement machine and ensure components are accurately placed.       
    • Hand-place components as necessary to efficiently complete SMT assemblies through the automated process.
    • Load correct Profile and process PCB thru reflow oven.
    • Load correct program and process PCB thru router.
    • Tear-Down Feeders per established IFS / Pole Zero WI guidelines.                     
  • Manipulate and/or make minor changes in programming of auto assembly equipment.
  • Perform basic maintenance activities on the auto assembly equipment.
  • Maintain accurate machine operation logs on a daily basis.  
  • Complete data recording/reporting activities for manufacturing control processes (via the ERP system or off-line).
  • Optimize machine setups for efficiency and maximize equipment capabilities.
  • Understand and monitor operation and maintenance requirements.
  • Communicates and coordinates as necessary with other Teams (Materials, Planning, Purchasing, etc) to facilitate an efficient operation.
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of surface mount components required.  This includes the ability to identify caps, IC’s capacitors, diodes, resistors, etc.
  • Must be able to read a parts list, gather components and appropriately assemble the parts to the product by accurately interpreting the drawing.
  • Good mechanical aptitude skills – ability to pass the Bennett Mechanical Test with the minimum score of 35/68 required.
  • Above average computer skills needed in order to be able to process assemblies thru the SMT Line.
  • Working knowledge of IPC-610-A and a J-STD-001 certification, which may obtained will be required.
  • Be able to conduct daily work operations with minimal supervision.
  • Be able to prioritize daily work operations by working with the schedules and planning resources.
  • Be able to effectively communicate with planning personnel, supervision and other department associates.

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least three years of experience with Juki 3010L/3020L or comparable surface mount machine required.
  • Previous lead/supervisor experience desired.
  • Must be able to identify electronic components.
  • Must have at least one year of hands on automated electronic assembly experience.
  • Must have intermediate level PC skills.
  • Must be a US person (US Citizen or Permanent Resident (Green Card Holder)

  • Stand, walk, and sit throughout the 10-hour shift, with the majority of the shift consisting of standing on rubber pad mats.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and /or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Schedules:

  • Normal work hours are 5:30 AM to 4:10 PM.
  • Normal workdays are Monday through Thursday.
  • Occasional overtime to support customer requirements.   
  • Lunch period is 40 minutes per shift, unpaid.
  • Breaks are two 15-minute per shift.
