Position Summary:

The Testing Engineer - Indexers and Conveyors is responsible for supporting validation of indexer and conveyor products through testing to ensure products meet stated project goals and product specifications. The Testing Engineer will be responsible to follow the customer input data for testing, documentation, and reporting within a team environment.  The Testing Engineer will also help identify risks and help develop future requirements based on learnings.  He/she will work with cross-functional teams to define priorities and meet project timelines.  He/she will work with vendors to meet the needs of testing and the cost impact to cross functional team.  He/she will work within and communicate across various functional teams within DESTACO that will enable the successful support on testing products.

 

The Testing Engineer - Indexers and Conveyors reports to the Applications Engineering Manager. The position is in Wheeling, IL. The position requires the ability to work and communicate globally and virtually with vendors, product managers, applications engineering, marketing, manufacturing support teams.  Travel up to 5% to facilities in the U.S. may be required. 

 

 

 

Key Job Responsibilities included but not limited to:

  • Promotes safety awareness with other key members of the plant team.  Promotes accident prevention and employee involvement about safe work environment. Ensures employees have an understanding on the safety expectations of the organization.
  • Develops test plans that translate the requirements into specific systems, applications, or project designs for large complex precision products such as Mechanical indexers, servo driven indexers, pick and place, robotic tools, and precision link conveyors.  
  • Works with production to evaluate needs to improve current testing methods and automate End of line testing where applicable.
  • Works with Applications Engineering in understanding customer inputs to evaluate products during End of line testing, work with production to resolve quality and production issues. May evaluate products, parts, or processes for cost efficiency and reliability.
  • Assist in driving results with internal and external resources per the product development stage gate process and schedule.
  • Executes testing of new products and obtains agency approvals where needed.
  • Tracks and records design changes following ECN processes.
  • Communicates with vendors and global teams to facilitate and resolve project testing issues. 
  • Generates documentation needs and requirements.
  • Meets project schedule and objectives.
  • Leverages continuous improvement tools to drive improvements.

Job Requirements:

Experience:

  • Experience developing product performance test plans that translate into specific systems and applications based on customer and internal criteria.
  • Experience conducting system performance testing to ensure system reliability and provide technical assistance to improve system performance, capacity, reliability.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to the evolution of test standards & technology and improving the quality of deliverables by creating tools, conventions, design patterns.
  • Experience implementing test plans during the early stages of both new product development and day to day plant production.
  • Experience using required measuring and gauging devices and familiarity with calibration of testing equipment.
  • Weibull software experience is a plus.

  • Competent in the use of AC Motors, DC motors, PLC & HMI for servo driven product testing.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

Education and Certification Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5 years of hands-on product testing experience required. 

 

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Ability to travel 5% of the time.
