          The Sr. CMM Programmer is responsible for creating, editing and running coordinate measurement machine (CMM) programs to facilitate the parts inspection process for our internal customers. This position also reviews all requests for parts to be measured on the CMM and assigns them to appropriate CMM programmers and operators as required. Other responsibilities include training and mentoring new CMM operators, CMM programmers and Inspectors as determined by their manager. Additionally, this role drives data collection, reporting and analysis and reviews data collected by others when requested.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Lead Advanced Gauge R&R studies
  • Lead employee quality training programs and communications
  • Train and mentor lab personnel on advanced programming techniques for the CMM
  • Inspect samples per documented specifications and record inspection results
  • Program and operate motorized bridge and portable CMMs (Romer Arm, Faro Arm, etc.)
  • Develop inspection procedures to measure engineering requirements
  • Coordinate the flow of inspection samples based on priority
  • Analyze data to determine trends in inspection history
  • Perform inspections using mechanical gauging as required
  • Addressing Non-Conformance
  • Create and communicate Nonconforming Material Reports
  • Identify and communicate Engineering Change Request (ECR) opportunities
  • Identify appropriate gauging needed to measure engineering drawing requirements
  • Visually identify inspection sample status
  • Assist in cost reduction opportunities and design change suggestions
  • Investigate, document and resolve issues related to the CMM
  • Identify quality improvements, cost reduction opportunities, and design change suggestions

 

 

 

EDUCATION AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • 5 years of experience operating and independently creating CMM programs and utilizing mechanical gaging
  • 5 years of experience working with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing

Preferred:

  • PC-DMIS software experience
  • ASQ Quality Certification
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to train others and modify training to accommodate learning preferences
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret drawing specifications
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret GD&T principles
  • Experience with Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills

  • Technical skills: A strong foundation in programming, mathematics, and geometry, especially trigonometry. Familiarity with programming languages and software like DMIS, PC-DMIS, Calypso, and CMM Manager.

  • Attention to detail: CMM programmers are part of quality assurance and are responsible for identifying and correcting manufacturing mistakes. 
  • Communication: Effective communication skills are essential for collaboration with engineers, technicians, and quality control staff. 
  • Teamwork: Strong teamwork skills are vital for collaboration. 
  • Blueprint interpretation: The ability to interpret complex drawings and customer specifications. 
  • Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T): Knowledge of GD&T is essential for reading technical drawings and checking part dimensions against a design.
