The Sustaing Engineer provides frontline engineering support for a diverse line of fluid transfer products manufactured in the Hamilton, Ohio facility. This role will collaborate with multiple engineering teams along with onsite operations teams to solve manufacturing and quality issues, implement enhancements and productivity savings on existing products, and assist with new product development initiatives.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Monitor the regulatory change process for impacts to rail products manufactured in Hamilton. Lead and/or support efforts to incorporate changes into production processes, documentation, and electronic systems as needed.
- Perform forensic examination of rail products manufactured in Hamilton to understand root cause of performance issues when requested by customers or regulatory authorities. Propose corrective actions and oversee implementation. Examinations may require travel to observe and test the equipment in the operating environment.
- Support quality as needed during audits to ensure compliance with AAR certification requirements.
- Interface with design engineering and operations teams (including manufacturing, quality, and supply chain) to provide frontline technical support of products manufactured in the Hamilton, Ohio facility.
- Implement product enhancements and productivity improvement initiatives as identified by the leadership team.
- Manage engineering change process to document improvements in product performance, reliability, or quality. Update technical documentation including bills of material, drawings, and other supporting information as necessary.
- Assist design engineering with the transfer of new products from development to the manufacturing floor.
- Provide engineering support to customer service and sales teams to answer escalated technical inquiries as needed.
- Other activities as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME).
- 3—5+ years of experience in sustaining engineering, manufacturing support, or product engineering.
- Proven ability to lead root cause analysis investigations and drive product improvements in a team environment.
- Proficient in 3D CAD modeling software (Creo and Windchill preferred).
- Experience with the engineering change process and ERP systems (creating and updating item masters and bills of material).
- Familiarity with industry standards and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to travel up to 10%
- This position is based in the Knappco facility in Hamilton, OH.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a manufacturing facility with exposure to fluid handling equipment, including components such as valves, connectors, and swivels.
- Strong data-driven problem solving background, including the ability to conduct analyses, identify root causes, develop corrective actions, and verify effective closure and removal of issues in manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 and AAR standards.
- High level of customer focus and ability to maintain a positive attitude at all times.
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor at all times with customers and coworkers. Fully observe Dover’s Code of Ethical Conduct, Employee Handbook “Personal Conduct of Employees” policies.
- High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
- Self-directed, positive and ethical role model able to work with minimal supervision.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment. The employee may occasionally work near moving mechanical parts while on shop floor.
